Is the Universe Talking to Me?

Yesterday, I described the experience of my thinking becoming more open to the idea that the universe (God) may actually be talking to me about achieving my financial goal, to make $1 million within one year. Today, I received another communication that made me think; it was by way of a message via a popular internet forum that I frequent.

The person concerned had just read my free book Napoleon Hill’s Awesome Secret and wrote to say he had enjoyed reading it. But he also was kind enough to explain how he saw things in relation to the Law of Attraction. So with thanks to Mike for sending me this, here’s an extract …

But for me, I always thought of it slightly differently. I’ve never believed that my brain becomes a magnet and magically attracts things.

Instead, the very fact that I believe and act as though I already have what I want in the present, this is more of a self-fulfilling prophecy type of mindset. By “magnetizing” my brain with certain thoughts, I tend to, of course, notice every opportunity to work toward making them a reality. (When Newton spoke of “Holding a question in mind” this is exactly what he meant … not trying to solve it, just literally holding the question in your mind for long hours at a time, so that your subconscious would work on it later!)

And of course, by believing and acting as if the future that I want is already a reality, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy … everything that I wanted actually came true because of the choices this mindset caused me to take … acting less, in any way, would never have brought me success, only the struggle to achieve success (because that is the reality I would have been creating).

It’s not “attraction” and the universe is not sending things my way, That, to me, seems to take away my power of control - the ultimate power that is within me - and the concept gives the control to the universe, which will supposedly, at some undetermined point in the future, will send things to me because of an “attraction”.

No, I disagree, I believe it is “creation”. I’m not a particularly religious man by any stretch, but most religions have one form or another of the idea that we were “created in the image of …” whoever or whatever. The power of creation is quite literally our birthright. That creation is our highest ability as human beings says something to me. Creation - the act of turning imagination into physical reality - is the highest power of mankind.

For me, it was never the “Law of Attraction”, it was always the “Secret of Creation”.

Just thought I’d share that seed with you.

Firstly, it is a very well thought-out comment and I am grateful to have received it. Essentially, it boils down to the question of whether we attract things or create things. At first, I thought this was something of passing interest only, because, let’s face it, I am more concerned with the result than understanding the process. But then, as I thought about it a little bit more, I realised that it was something I needed to get straight in my mind because, there is no question about it, stuff is beginning to arrive – lots of stuff that appears to be related to my goal – so I need a way to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Here’s the dilemma: yesterday, I received something that opened my mind to the possibility that the universe may actually be sending me what I need to achieve my goal; today I received the above message that suggests the universe is not sending me stuff at all. Now, if the universe (God) is indeed speaking, and causing relevant stuff to be sent to me, then I do not expect to be getting conflicting messages.

So, after a little thought, I thought I would write a little note to the universe (God). I do not mean this to seem irreverent in any way, but here’s what I am proposing to the universe (God):

I am completely open to the idea that you intend to assist me in achieving my goal. Actually, I really need your help because I certainly don’t know how to achieve it. Without your help, I know that I will fall a long way short of my goal.

I also understand that, along the way, mixed in with the information you will be sending me, there will be other information that simply represents background noise – a product of coincidence which, as you know, I do believe in. So I would like all relevant information from you to include a codeword if you would be so kind. That way, I will be able to easily recognise the right information.

Of course, I am not going to publish my codeword here. But the universe (God) knows what it is. So that will be my way of working from this point forward. It will be a lot of fun to see where all of this goes and, of course, I will certainly keep you informed.

    Hi Don

It’s nice to see you over here and thanks also for two very interesting stories. Your comments about interconnection reminded me of the wonderful Jill Bolte Taylor TED Talk about her experiences of surviving a stroke. Jill was a brain scientist, so her insights are particularly interesting.

Thanks for the feedback on the code word idea. I am glad you like it and feel it is worth including in your course.

    Best wishes,

    Will 🙂

Thank you, Will. Interesting post. I didn’t see this when you added it to your blog. At the time my wife and I were on a ski trip to Park City, UT, which also gave both of us some time to catch up on our reading, and we each devoured a couple books.

The 2 books I read each had to do with Near Death Experiences, and presented insights into ways we, and what happens in our lives are all connected.

One was “Dying To Be Me” by Anita Moorjani. Her parents moved from India to Hong Kong when she was 2 years old.

While in her early thirties, she developed Hodgekin’s Lymphoma. Four years later, after much chemo and radiation, and with her body covered in lemon-size tumors, she became comatose and died. While in her NDE she was shown how we are all connected, and how we are creative. She was told she had created the thoughts which caused her cancer, and if she were to go back, she would be well.

When she came out of the coma, she described everything that had happened around her in the hospital room, and conversations that were held between her husband and the doctor, who were not even present in the room when they conversed.

Within 3 days of “coming back” her tumors had shrunk by 50%, and within another couple weeks all cancer was gone.

The other book was “Proof Of Heaven” by Eben Alexander, MD. He is a neurosurgeon who did not believe in an afterlife, nor did he believe any of the stories he heard from patients who had experienced NDEs - until it happened to him.

He developed a particularly rare form of meningitis, one from which almost everyone dies. He entered a coma almost from the beginning, and four days later was in a total vegetative state. He later learned his coma state was a Glasgow level 1 - as low as it goes.

While comatose, he experienced an amazing NDE. At seven days, suddenly Eben Alexander came out of the coma. He had full memory of every detail of what happened.

Once he completely recovered, he had access to all the medical data, because he was treated at the same hospital in which he practices. He studied his records, and said that nothing of what he had experienced could have come from his brain. It was gone.

He too learned we are connected, and nothing we can do is wrong. It was a beautiful experience.

He had a guide throughout his NDE, a young woman - someone he didn’t know. Oh yes, he had been adopted when he was a baby. He learned of a sister from his birth parents, who lived to be an adult, but then died. From his birth parents he received a photograph of that sister he had never met. It was she who was his guide during the NDE.

We are creative. We create opportunities, but we must grab onto them in order to make them bloom. There is a type of meditation called Japa. I first heard of it on an audio recording by Dr. Wayne Dyer, and began to practice it. What it let me manifest goes beyond coincidence. Then again, maybe it let me attract rather than create.

I like your code word idea. That is worth adding to our manifesting skills.

    Thanks.

Great post, which opened up my mind a little bit more. I am looking forward to hearing where all this leads you. Take care.
