Getting the Ground Rules Straight

So, I’ve been thinking a bit more about the material that is coming at me, either from the Universe or, perhaps, just as a matter of coincidence, and something else struck me. You see, I received something with the codeword in it (see here if this doesn’t make sense). But it was by way of an invitation to participate in a JV (Joint Venture). This, I see as a slight problem.

You see, in addition to requests for book reviews, I also get people contacting me fairly regularly with JV offers. I try to look at them all because I do genuinely believe in win-win ideas and opportunities. At first I thought I might get involved with the promotion. But, after a bit more thinking, I came to the conclusion that it would be unfair of me to promote that product to my list. The reason is simple: I don’t want anyone to think I have mixed motives whilst I am reporting to you what is going on.

This is a genuine experiment in manifestation and I don’t think it deserves to become tarnished by what I might call a conflict of interests. If I were to tell you about the Universe sending me some stuff related to achieving my financial goal and then subsequently promoted that product as an affiliate, well … you can see how my motives might be called into question can’t you?

After a bit more thinking, I started wondering if this was the Universe again telling me that we need to get the ground rules straight i.e. that some of the stuff I am being sent might contain the codeword but that I will need to be discerning about how I choose to use the information. That is how I interpret this lesson anyway.

Whilst we are on the subject of ground rules, I thought I would mention two other things that it might be well to get out of the way, right at the start, because I know they may represent issues for some people. Firstly the mention of God and the Universe which I used interchangeably in a previous post and secondly, the issue of whether or not it is sinful to have set a large financial goal in the way that I have done.

Let’s deal with the God/Universe language first. Over the years, my views about God have changed considerably. I now view him as being in everything and through everything. He is in me and he is in you and he also connects and interconnects us all. Whereas, I don’t think that God and the Universe are the same thing, nevertheless, he permeates the entire Universe. So I have no problems with the language that self help authors sometimes use.

For me, when such writers talk about the Universe, they are also talking about God and there is no contradiction. Furthermore, the Bible supports the view that God permeates the Universe. That is what, I believe, it means when we read ‘in him, we live and move and have our being’ (Acts) so none of the above goes against anything Christian, though I expect it does not conform to many Christians’ view of God.

Now let’s deal with the subject of money. The Biblical teaching on the subject of money is the most misunderstood subject in the entire Bible in my opinion. It is something we have discussed before (see here), but I know that it represents a stumbling block for many Christians, not least because the Bible clearly states that ‘you cannot serve both God and mammon (money)’ (St Matthew).

The correct understanding of the above verse hinges on what it means to ‘serve’. Essentially, to put money first in your life - before your own life purpose – is what it means to serve mammon. But money itself is not sinful; it is not wrong to have it and it is not wrong to have it in abundance. The Bible does not say anything to the contrary.

Personally, I have come to believe in an abundant Universe and an abundant God. He is not limited in any way and many of the limitations we experience in our reality are the result of our faulty understanding of how he wants us to live our lives. I personally believe he wants us to experience and share his abundance.

Well, there we are. I hope that has been useful in laying down some ground rules for this experiment. I have nothing else to report at this stage but, when I do, you will be the first to hear.
