Come Dream With Me

It’s 2.31 am as I begin this post. I have just been watching a couple of programs, on BBC 4, about Jeff Lynne. I found that, when I thought it was about time I got some kip, I was unable to nod off. It is something that happens to me occasionally; I know I am tired, but I just can’t sleep. At times like this, I just get up and go write something. It doesn’t matter to me what I will feel like tomorrow because, I don’t have to be anywhere or do anything; that’s part of the pleasure of working for myself.

Jeff had been talking about the times when his Mum used to call him to get out of bed in the mornings. He lived in Birmingham, where I worked for many years, and he hated going to work on the bus to labour in the factory. But eventually, he became successful with The Move and, later of course, with The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). Apparently, one day, when Jeff’s Mum called him to get out of bed, he answered, “Mum, I am now a professional musician and I am not getting out of bed at this time today … or ever again!”

That’s the kind of freedom that I now enjoy too. When interviewed at my old job by a consultant who was trying to figure out what personality group I belonged to, I clearly remember being asked what I really wanted in life. And I remember answering, “freedom”. It was becoming successful in my web business that eventually gave me that freedom, so I fully understand what Jeff was talking about. Generally, I don’t sleep in; I am an early riser. But it does give me a great deal of pleasure to know that I can sleep in if I want to, I can stay up if I want to and I can do exactly what I want, when I want.

Looking back at the accomplishments of Jeff Lynne, it is quite amazing who he worked with and what he has achieved. He worked with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison – and actually, I’ll have to stop there because the full list really could fill the remainder of this post. He is a very humble man, I discovered. I loved the fact that he was knocked out when Paul McCartney asked him to check the harmonies on a recording he and George had completed. In fact, I love his whole attitude. He is just doing what he loves to do and doing it to the best of his ability.

Again, I feel this is true for me too. I am doing what I enjoy (for me, it is writing) and I am simply trying to do it to the best of my ability. It is wonderful that people are beginning to take note of what I am doing and approaching me to work with them. Allowing myself to dream a little, I realise that, like Jeff, I may perhaps get the chance to work with some of my own heroes a little further down the line.

It is a shame that Jim Rohn has died; I would love to have met him and it would have been a real hoot to work with him. Recently, Stephen Covey passed away too, so sadly, I won’t get to work with him either. I admired both of those men and would love to have worked with them. But there are still plenty of other people I would like to work with in the future including:

  • Jack Black
  • Tony Robbins
  • Bob Proctor
  • Zig Ziglar
  • Brian Tracy

My tribute to those people is of course at my motivational videos blog.

Who knows if I will ever get the opportunity? I have no way of making it happen except for the Law of Attraction so it would again be a real hoot if one of them were to drop me a line and suggest we do a JV. If that should happen, you, my dear reader, will be the first to know.

Actually, while I am dreaming about stuff I that would like to happen in the future, I really should also mention that I would love to have one of my books published by Simon and Schuster. Over the years, I have listened to so many great programs of theirs and it would give me a real kick to join the ranks of their authors. At some stage, I will probably contact them via my agent. But for now, I am simply sending my intention out via the Law of Attraction.

Watching Jeff Lynne was a real inspiration. His view was that he is just an ordinary guy who decided to do what he loved doing. So you see, there’s definitely hope for me and you too.

The Making of a Warrior

Arriving at the gates of the Warrior’s meeting place for the first time, I was aware of the subtle mixture of emotions within. There was definitely a bit of excitement mixed with some trepidation and at first, I wondered if it was even ok to go in.

The sign said ‘Welcome’, so I finally went inside and called out, in a not very convincing voice,

“Hello, I’m new here. Just wanted to say hi.”

Before I knew it, someone had answered. It was Atip. He was very welcoming and was to become a kind of mentor to me over the coming years, but at the time I did not know that.

“Hi,” he said “Welcome to the Warrior’s Meeting Place. If there’s anything you need, there are plenty of helpful people around here, so just ask and you are sure to get a good answer.”

That’s great, I thought, and I was just about to ask the first question that was on my mind, when someone else asked it for me.

“Hey,” said Ankh “Can someone tell me how I can be successful?”

That saved me the bother, so I just sat down and waited for the Warriors to answer. What transpired was not, I guess, what either of us expected. Firstly, Pancake237 commented that Novice Warriors needed to start asking better questions. And then Tobias3rd added his comment to the effect that Ankh really needed to spend a bit of time reading through the archives.

Before long, quite a number of people had commented, but I don’t think Ankh was very impressed. He actually replied to one or two of these people, saying something about ‘just trying to learn’ and he ‘thought he had come to the right place’. But perhaps he was mistaken. Boy was I glad that I didn’t ask that question.

After a brief period of reflection, I thought about what Tobias3rd had said about the archives. There must be some really good material in there, I thought. So I went off to the dungeon with my reading glasses and the intention of getting an education. After reading for quite a short while, the first thing I realised was that a lot of people had previously asked exactly same the question that Ankh had asked, and there were lots of answers to it right here in the archives. So Toabias3rd was right about reading the archives. I actually learned quite a lot from my sojourn there.

One of the most important things I learned was how to recognise a true Warrior. You see, of all the people who had taken the time to answer this question in the past, every now and then you found someone who seemed to identify with the plight of the Novice. These people seemed to be encouraging, understanding and genuinely helpful. I made a mental note of some of those names and then, I had a little brainwave.

It was possible to search the archives in such a way as to find what these True Warriors had said in the past. That kind of stuff, I thought, should be well worth reading. So I dedicated myself to reading, learning and trying to understand this great problem of success. It was indeed an education. But I knew that there was a lot more to learn and, since a lot of questions had been asked repeatedly, I was beginning to see the same answers quite often. It was time to go back up to the main floor of the meeting place.

Back on the main floor, I wandered around listening to other people’s conversations for a while. As it turned out, there were a lot of Novice Warriors asking similar questions. I could feel the smile on my face as I realised that I knew a lot of the answers thanks to my spell in the dungeon reading the archive material and I was just congratulating myself on my first achievement when I bumped into Atip.

Attracting the Life You Want - Part 1

Do you thirst for a better, more fulfilling life full of abundance? Despite the recession being in full swing and regardless of your current economic circumstances, the life you really desire is indeed a possibility for you. But to get it - to attract it toward you - you may need to start doing a few things a bit differently.

As some wise fellow once said, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” It is simply the Law of Cause and Effect; your actions are causes and what shows up in your life are effects.

But what do you actually do differently in order to attract what you desire? Do you just wish for what you want, really hard, and then have faith that the object of your desire will just turn up? Isn’t that the kind of thing that some Law of Attraction teachers seem to teach?

It just isn’t realistic. When St James said, “faith without works is dead” he meant that you need to take action.

  • Do you desire financial freedom?
  • Could your relationships use some more passion?
  • What about your physical self – are you satisfied with your body?
  • Do you feel joy and happiness in your life? Do you want more?

You can make all these things happen! All it takes is a commitment to bring this abundance into your life and then the discipline to engage in the necessary actions to make it all a reality. This series of articles will cover specific action steps that you can take to attract the life you desire. Commit yourself to staying in motion. Use this stuff every day and soon you’ll begin to attract the life of joy and happiness you’ve always wanted.

Dr. Joe Vitale, motivational speaker and author, has said many times, “The fastest way to get where you want to be is to be happy with where you are.” This seems almost contradictory, but, in fact, it reveals a great truth. The more “good vibrations” you send out, the more good things you attract back to you and one of the best ways to be sending out good vibrations consistently is to live in the moment.

Living in The Moment

What does this mean? It means that you remain in the now – not yesterday or tomorrow. You treat each moment as the precious thing that it is and live life to the full. You immerse yourself fully in the moment.

Living in the moment can:

  • Reduce stress
  • Relieve worry about the future
  • Eliminate anguish about the past
  • Help you to brush away distractions and focus on the task at hand
  • Bring more passion to your relationships
  • Drive you forward toward achieving your goals faster than you thought possible
  • Help you enjoy the peace, happiness and contentment of a fulfilling life

Here are some action steps you can take to help you live in the moment:

Watch the Movie The Peaceful Warrior

This movie will bring you a greater understanding about living in the moment. It’s based on events in the life of champion gymnast Dan Millman. After a tragic accident paralyzes him, his doctors say he’ll never walk again. With the help of his mentor who teaches him to live in the moment, Dan not only walks, but competes as a world champion gymnast once again.

It’s a true story and reveals exceptionally well how living in the moment can truly change your life for the better. As his mentor teaches him the philosophy and techniques, so, too, will you learn.

Take Time to Stop and Smell the Roses

This applies not only to enjoying the simple, good things in life, but it also applies to literally taking the time to notice what’s around you so you can take pleasure from what your senses bring you.

  • Notice the physical world around you.
  • Cherish its beauty.
  • Revel in the majesty of the sunset, the wonderful aroma of the roses, the delicious taste of good food, the pleasing harmony of music, and the soft touch of a loved one’s caress.

Avoid Total Focus on Your Goals

Never get so caught up in pursuing your goals that you cease to enjoy the present. Your life is your journey. Enjoy what you’ve got when you’ve got it. Otherwise, you might wake up some day and realize that you missed living altogether.

Make the Most of Each Moment

Realize that every moment of your life is a gift so get all the good out of it that you can.

  • If you make a mistake, learn something from that moment and move on.
  • Take a cue from your dog. Have you ever noticed that whatever you do with your dog is his favorite thing? If you take him for a walk, it’s as if he thinks, “Oh boy! My favorite thing!” If you play fetch, it’s, “Oh boy! My favorite thing!” When you feed him, it’s, “Oh boy! My favorite thing!” We could all enjoy feeling more exuberance!
  • Look for the silver lining. Practice finding the good, even when things don’t go as expected. Many times, you can even get something better than you had planned, if you just open your mind to the possibilities that there is something good to be discovered.
  • Eliminate time spent waiting. Avoid just sitting around and waiting for things to happen to you. Take advantage of your time by making it productive. Use it to listen to motivational audio books, share delightful insights with the people next to you, plan your day, or read something that educates, inspires, or relaxes you.

There’s a Zimbabwe proverb that says, “If you can walk, you can dance. If you can talk, you can sing.” Like the proverb, living in the moment enables you to live with excitement instead of mediocrity. Living in the now gives you a reason to dance instead of walk, and to sing instead of talk.

Living in the moment takes some practice, but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Practice this every day, and soon it will become a habit that changes your mindset and helps you live a life full of passion, joy, and happiness.
