The Most Amazing Incident of the Week

This week, a number of remarkable things happened and some of them did not escape the notice of the headline writers at The Sun. I don’t read the thing, of course. But I take a look at the sports pages whilst sitting in the waiting area of the local curry house as I order my weekly curry, and this week, in big bold letters, the headline read:

“Terry Sent Off, Messi Misses a Penalty, Chelsea Reach Champions League Final … But Most Incredible of all: TORRES SCORES!”

As every fan of football will know, the owner of Chelsea Football Club would have paid the entire £50m (the fee Chelsea reportedly paid Liverpool to acquire his services) just for that one goal. Chelsea’s achievement in beating the great Barcelona team to reach the Chamion’s League Final is truly amazing, but do you know something? It was NOT the most amazing thing that happened this week.

This morning as I watched the replay of Match of the Day, I have to report another amazing incident. Technically, it occurred yesterday, but these days, I can’t seem to manage to get to the end of the program without falling asleep and, as many people will know, they never put the Everton game on until the end.

Anyway, back to this morning. I was having my Weetabix and morning cuppa whilst reviewing the previous day’s Premiership action. Everton, as you may know, are bang on form at the moment and, with all due respect to Fulham fans, they absolutely demolished Fulham yesterday (4-0). Nikica Jelavic looks like a terrific acquisition, scoring a brace in the game (1st and 3rd goals). Fellaini, every Evertonians favourite player it seems, bagged the intermediate goal and Tim Cahill added a fourth.

The game finished and then, it was back to the studio for the customary underwhelmed response from Alan Hansen and here was when I nearly spilled my tea down my jumper because, I heard him say:

“Last week, against Manchester United, Everton were good; today they were sensational!”

Absolutely unbelievable!

It has been quite a week.
