Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

The video is inspired by the Dr Seuss’ book Oh, the Places You’ll Go. I would really love to reproduce the entire transcript because it is so beautiful and inspiring, but of course, that would be plagiarism, so I will content myself with commenting on a few of the lines:

Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

Isn’t that a great opening? You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes too. You know something? You can go in any direction you choose. So, which direction are you actually going in right now and is it the right one for you?

Despite the fact that we all “have brains in our head and feet in our shoes”, lots of people are just waiting …

Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or the waiting around for a Yes or No

It reminds me of something that Brian Tracy once said about goal setting on Someday Isle. People are waiting for the wind to be in the right direction. But “that’s not you” because you know that it’s not about the wind at all. As the great Jim Rohn commented, the same wind blows for us all, so success is not about the wind of opportunity; it’s about the “set of the sail”.

All Alone! Whether you like it or not,
Alone will be something you’ll be quite a lot.
And when you’re alone, there’s a very good chance
you’ll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.

There are things that will definitely scare you when you strive for success because when you move out of your comfort zone, by definition, it’s scary. You are in unfamiliar territory so of course there are going to be lots of difficulties, but you know that it is all going to be worth it in the end.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

So remember – and this is Dr Seuss talking here – you have “brains in your head and feet in your shoes” so you can go anywhere you want and do anything you like. Don’t wait for the phone to ring or someone to say “yes or no”. Sure there will be difficulties along the way and it will definitely be scary. But if you move out of your comfort zone and have courage, success is 98.75% guaranteed.

What a guarantee!
