Inspiration - Personal Development at its Best!
Thursday, 27 August 2009

Some people seem to do everything right, yet nothing seems to work
well for them. They are reasonably or highly intelligent individuals
who take the right career actions, work everyday at being honest and
having integrity, they practice having the right thoughts for success
and they do their best to help others reach their goals.

They sound ideal right? They're just the kind of people we'd all like
to know. However, what many of us don't realize is that some people
who appear to have it all together are actually suffering from one
form or another of depression and the frustration it causes them
depending upon the severity of the condition.

Right before our eyes someone we know or love can be mentally
deteriorating and we might only chock it up to irritability or fatigue
when in reality it might be a general depression that is escalating
toward clinical depression.

This insidious monster that appears to take control of a person's
mind, can keep an otherwise successful person always down and rather
limited in their ability to accomplish their goals. Even when things
appear to be going well, they can feel threatened at any moment when
stressed, causing their minds to race with all forms of negative
thoughts from doubt to failure to an increasing fear.

How can we notice the signs in such a person to help them or better
yet, how can a person recognize the signs of depression in themselves
in order to keep from being a victim?

Here are some common symptoms of depression:

* Prolonged periods of sadness or melancholy. Feeling sorry for
oneself and moping around whenever possible is the best and most
obvious example of depression.

* Periods of hopelessness which bring about negative thinking and an
expectation of the worst to happen.

* Guilt-driven, loss of self-worth and helplessness. One feels
unworthy of having a good life and being happy.

* Lack of interest in finding or taking pleasure. There is no desire
to keep busy or find something enjoyable to do. Such a person would
rather rest and do nothing, laying around the house, for example,
without cleaning for days sometimes.

* Fatigue is a common sign. A lack of vigor and enthusiasm takes
over, even keeping one from wanting to spend time with family or doing
things they once had the energy and joy to do. This is caused by a
loss of appetite that can lead to other illnesses and a further decent
into mental illness.

* Having trouble concentrating and a loss of memory. One becomes
indecisive and forgetful because of a gradual withdrawal from the
outside world.

There are more symptoms of depression that can actually help you
better understand if a person (or you) needs to get the proper help,
but these are the most common along with the physical symptoms of
restlessness, irritability, headaches, digestive disorders and various
body pains.

The good news is that one can actually overcome this illness by
controlling how they think, speak and act. While it's necessary at
first to make a conscious effort, one can actually turn their lives
around to a normal lifestyle once again. However, it's best to find a
doctor you feel comfortable with who will help you find methods of
relief that will actually bring healing.

Watch for my next article that will teach you how to work with your
doctor for a permanent cure.
