A great general once won a great battle by having his troops sink their boats once they reached the port of the location for their destination so they had the mentality that they had to win since there was no turning back. It's interesting how this was literally a life and death situation, but when it comes to non life and death struggles, such as personal goals in business, people obsess about back up plans as if the world would end if it didn't work out. Well, when you acknowledge a back up plan, the possibility of defeat enters your mind, and people usually end up going to their back up plan since their mind has prepared for failure, rather than assuming success as a natural by product of actions and learning from failures and not letting the idea of giving up enter ones mind. I wonder why they just don't skip their goals and go straight to their back up plan. Not to say that it's bad to have a back-up plan, but most people I know when I talk about stepping out and doing something entrepreneurial always talk about being careful about not failing. Well, to me that's guaranteed failure! As I've mentioned before, your subconscious mind doesn't realize that you're avoiding failure, it only thinks failure. What I say is I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. So what if I fail, I'll just try something else. As Thomas Edison once said, who failed 3,000 times, "I found 3,000 ways not to make a light bulb." end# Peter Ruble CEO AmericanRubles.com
