Inspiration - Personal Development at its Best!
Wednesday, 21 January 2009

As a hermit by choice there are times I may go days without leaving the
house or my chair. Indulging myself in a novel, my favorite TV shows, the Lakers
or playing with my website or just what I am doing now and spending time with
you.

Therefore I may not allow myself the luxury of a bath or shower for a day or
two. Last week while in the hospital I went almost a whole week without a
true bath only using a wash rag to clean up with.

So you can imagine the first thing I did when I got home was to remove all
of the ekg buttons and tabs then allow myself the extreme pleasure of standing
in the shower for almost an hour.

I tell you I was in heaven, nirvana, paradise and as I stood there I
recalled the last time I enjoyed a shower so much.

It was in a little town in north Texas in the mid seventies I believe I had
been on the road in my 1961 Cadillac hearse which was black with a white lace
paint job for about a month. Leaving in my vehicle and traveling to small
fleas markets in Texas selling odds and ends of things.

During this time I hadn't been able to score a real shower or bath just
cleaning up in service station bathrooms or a hose if I could find one and once
in a while in a creek hidden from the road.

Then one day I happen to see a Salvation Army center with a line of homeless
men lined up outside. Taking a chance I joined them and sure enough they
were waiting to take showers.

I waited my turn and with a group of about ten other men we went into this
huge communal shower room much like a high school locker room. There I stood
as long as they would allow me and just enjoyed the feeling of hot water
flowing over my head and body.

Never in my life have I had a feeling like that just to feel the layers of
whatever wash away and to feel my hair as long then as it is now to be clean
and fresh. The smell of life boy soap in the air and the feeling of true
freedom was almost to much to handle.

I realized then as now how much we take some things for granted. Taking a
shower for instance, now tell me the last time you gave thanks and were truly
appreciative for the shower you just had.

There are actually many people in our own country that do not have the
privilege of taking a bath or shower on a regular basis. In downtown Los Angeles
after dark the homeless claim many of the streets for their bedrooms.

This is actually their choice for there are many beds in the missions around
them that go empty for they would rather sleep on the street than listen to
message of what sinners they are in exchange for a comfortable safe bed
inside.

I would love the opportunity to put some of my ideas to work for I believe
that in five years or less I could solve the homeless challenge in Los Angeles
and in ten years solve it for the entire USA.

One challenge I have solved is that I love you and Believe in YOU.

Blessings and happy holidays
