What does money mean to you?
Fast cars, luxury holidays, grand homes?
Perhaps it's the ability and freedom to live the life you want to live. How much self confidence and self esteem would that give you?
Each individual will have a definition of what money means to them, and by having money, how different their lives would be with all that abundance.
For many years I struggled with the notion that money was the route of all evil; the desire for money driving people to crime and deception. Deep down inside of me it was hard to believe that rich people had achieved their position without performing some scam or confidence trick along the way.
A few years back I was talking to somebody who had a good job, being a success as a Chartered Surveyor. He was a man of self esteem, self confidence and seemed at peace with the world. As our conversation progressed, it was obvious that he was comfortable with the abundance in his life even though he was a devout Christian; god playing a major part in his life. I asked him how he overcame the concept that money was the route of all evil. He reminded me that the bible claims that it is the pursuit of money that is the route of all evil. Money for moneys sake is the attitude to be avoided.
The world, whether we like it or not, revolves around money. You and I need money to pay the bills, money to go on holiday, money to buy the children's Christmas presents (those that Santa Claus doesn't bring) and generally money to make our lives as comfortable as possible. To be greedy for money firstly closes the mind to many other experiences that life has to offer. Also, generally, it shows a desire for power and control which then means exercising your will over others. To have money purely to enhance and enrich our lives is a far greater pursuit that sits far more comfortably on my conscience.
To achieve success in our pursuits by providing value to others will bring the abundance that we are looking for. I no longer believe that god intended us to be poor. I believe that he intended us all to grow and experience the riches his world has to offer. By adding value to other peoples lives, by helping others to grow, we all grow. Remembering back to when I attended various assertiveness courses, the desired goal was to achieve a win – win situation. This meant that in any given situation all parties benefit. Using this philosophy, by helping others to grow we all grow. A great theory for personal improvement.
Undoubtedly to experience life the way god intended, experiencing the riches that his world has to offer takes money. We all deserve these riches and can achieve them with the correct mind set, self confidence and self belief. Being rich is about more than just having money. It is also about enjoying the things in life that we want but also the things that we have.
