Yes, it was a big production for weeks, after the announcement of the first case of the flu in Mexico. Once the first sign of the flu was announced in America the stories were on every newscast several times a day.
The media does a great job creating panic in people. Some news stories even compared the outbreak of Swine flu to the 1918 Spanish Influenza epidemic which killed an estimated 100 million people.
This panic spread all over the globe too. It even had people believing that pigs were spreading a terrible disease. In some countries pigs were unnecessarily killed as a preventive measure.
In Egypt, there were as many as 400,000 pigs killed. Even the Baghdad Zoo killed 10 wild boars because of the fear of the Swine Flu. What a shame that the news media creates such disgusting news.
Some people even dropped pork from their diet because of this idiotic scare the media created. This has had a devastating blow on the pork industry. Then the government in trying to cool this panic decided to call this virus as the HINI virus. However it had very little impact on the situation.
You can probably bet this is not the end of this flu bug story. Wait until the leaves start turning in the fall and the situation will return once again. But remember to stay calm next time. This is not the first time there has been such a panic about the flu. The last time it happened was in 1976. It resulted in a massive swine flu vaccine campaign.
After a few months there were claims totaling $ 1.3 billion that was filed by victims who had suffered paralysis from the vaccine. The vaccine was also blamed for 25 deaths. Several hundred people developed crippling Guillain-Barre Syndrome when they were injected with the Swine flu vaccine. Even healthy 20 year olds ended up paraplegics. The sad thing about it was the flu pandemic never ever happened.
During the Bush administration in four different years it was predicted two million Americans would die as a result of Bird Flu pandemic. It turned out to be a hoax and instilled fear in people. This was a cruel hoax with the idea to line the pockets of certain individuals and industry.
Early in May 2009, 24 countries had officially reported 2,384 cases of Swine flu virus and only 44 deaths in the entire world from this virus. At this time 43 of deaths were in Mexico. There are no official reports about who these people are. It isn't known if they were elderly or infirmed people or were they already chronically ill.
Were they young children under 5 years old? These people could just as easily been killed by the common cold or even slipped and fallen.
It's important to note that this virus has been reported to be rather mild. Scientific evidence has made it known that this virus is not as potent as it was thought to be.
The fear of getting the flu will make some people very rich. Tamiflu is approved for treatment of uncomplicated influenza A and B in children 1 year of age and older. It is also approved for prevention of flu in people 13 years and older. The Associated Press has reported that at least one financial analyst estimates up to $388 million worth of Tamiflu sales could happen in the near future and they are saying this could happen without even a pandemic outbreak.
More that six pharmaceutical companies, including Gilead Sciences Inc. Roche, GlaxoSmithKline and other companies who have a stake in flu treatments and detection, have seen a rise in their shares in a matter of days. They will likely see their revenue boost if the swine flu continues to spread. The United States government ordered 20 million doses, costing $2 billion, in October 2005, and so did the UK government order 14.6 million doses. Tamiflu's manufacturer, Roche, has confirmed that the shelf life of it's anti-viral is three years.
When Homeland Security declared a health emergency, 2.5 percent, about 12 million doses of Tamiflu and Relenza treatment doses were released from the nation's stockpile. You have to realize that Tamiflu is not a safe drug. Serious side effects include convulsions, delirium or delusions. Tamiflu went through some rough times not too long ago. In 2007, the FDA finally began investigating some 1800 adverse event reports related to the drug.
The flu vaccines are dangerous and ineffective and even if your doctor recommends you get a flu shot ignore it. Here's something to remember also. If any of the new vaccine turns out to be a killer, the pharmaceutical companies responsible are immune from lawsuits. Here's a more simple and safer way to defend yourself against the flu. Just make sure you take charge of your own personal health and learn how to boost your immune system and implement other health measures. My website will show you how to do it.
To your good health,
