When will we finally realize that our business association with China is bad?

The truth is, they can't be trusted. For one thing, there has been various product recalls. Even 80% of the ingredients in our prescription drugs are produced there and their safety standards are questionable. Worst of all, we are in hock to them financially for millions of dollars.

Now a new issue with them continues to make headlines. It has to do with a chemical they are using in baby formulas, dog food, plastic products and other products that come from them.

This chemical is called Melamine. So what is melamine? It's an industrial chemical used in production of melawares, which is a nearly indestructible hard plastic. It's also used in other household items like laminates and fertilizers.

U.S. health officers have uncovered trace amounts of melamine in a sample of infant formula sold in the United States. A FDA spokeswoman, Judy Leon said, "There's no basis for concern because we are talking about trace levels that are so low, that there is absolutely no risk"

Well, with the repetition the FDA has of approving drugs they say are safe and then we find out later they are not, who would believe anything they say?

Now on the issue of melamine – tainted milk products from China and the potential health hazards of consuming this industrial chemicals, you should also ask what other food products might have been tainted and how do you avoid them?

The most important nutrient in milk is protein. Melamine mimics this protein, so adding inexpensive melamine into the milk reduces the actual milk content required while still making the product to have the correct level of nutrition.

So the bottom line is, it saves the manufacturers lots of money. Once again we see manufactures inconsiderate of health concerns for profit gain.

Here's what happens when melamine is ingested. It can form into insoluble crystals in your renal tubules, kidneys and urinary bladder. The following symptoms

* Unexplained fever arising from urinary tract infection

* Unexplained crying in infants, especially when urinating, possible vomiting

* Small amounts of blood in the urine

* Acute obstructive renal failure

* Pain on urinating, and passage of stones when urinating

* High blood pressure

* Edema

* Pain over the kidneys

Although surgery can remove the stones, it can cause irreversible kidney damage. The melamine stones can lead to the loss of kidney function, which may cause kidney dialysis. It can also lead to death due to kidney failure.

Why is melamine so much more dangerous for infants? It's because a child's kidneys are much smaller than an adult is, and they consume much larger quantities of milk powder (if fed infant formula)

So we should ask what foods should be avoided ? The answer is foods originating from China that contain dairy products.

Here's just some of the food products that could be affected: Coffee-mate, Nestle, Maxwell House Coffee, Starbucks Coffee, M and M's, Snickers and Dove.

Now to the differentiate food products made in the U.S., Taiwan, China or any other country, look at the bar code. All bar codes that start with 690, 691, 692 etc; up to 695 are all made in China.

Other countries of origin bar codes are:

0-13 U.S.A. and Canada – 50-UK

30-37 France – 57 Denmark

40-44 Germany – 64 Finland

49 – Japan – 76 Switzerland and Liechtenstein

471 – Taiwan – 480 Philippines

628 Saudi Arabia – 629 United Arab Emirates

740 745 Central America

It is crystal clear China has a tremendous quality control problem. So China is putting the world at long term health risks. The FDA must grasp the severity of this problem.

People and pet food manufacturers must act immediately and stop using Chinese imported products. Even livestock producers must avoid protein-enhanced feeds that contain the slightest bit of Chinese imported ingredients.

The risk is more than likely, far more serious than any of us realize. Are we ever going to be self-sustaining ever again, at least to a greater amount than we are now?
