For years, maybe even decades you thought you had been making a healthier choice by substituting those pretty little blue, pink and yellow packets for sugar.
But you know what? you have been deceived big time by the FDA and Big Industry. Even top political figures are part of this deception too.
The truth has been revealed by some reliable investigator, over a two year period.
Artificial sweetneers are not a diet aid and in fact they make you more prone to gaining weight. Aspartame and suralose are synthetic chemical sweeteners. Really a bad choice if you truly care about your health.
Today you find artificial sweeteners in everything from yogart to baked goods. Tragically, the real truth is Splenda and Nutrasweet are not healthy or safe. Not even the other popular sweeteners either. Splenda is now the leading artificial sweetener produced. It outsells both Equal and Sweet 'N Low by a huge margin. Of course we are all familiar with Splenda's famous ad which states "it's made from sugar so it tastes like sugar".
Well to some degree they are right. There is no question that sucrolose starts off as a sugar molecule, it is what goes on in the factory that is concerning.
Without giving you the entire chemical processes Splenda goes through '(the technology is way above my head) it alters the chemical composition of the sugar. In reality after it goes through the entire chemical process it is defintely not safe for human consumption.
Now while it's true that Splenda or any of the other artificial sweeteners are not safe, only those people who consume them on a daily basis are highly aff'ected by them.
So if you ever get caught in a situation where you want some sweetener in your tea or coffee it's not a life or death situation if you only use it occasionally. It's only harmful to those that use it consistently.
But Hurray! there is an artificial sweetneer that is safe. However you never see it in any rack in a restaurant but it's totally safe. It's really a non-caloric herb and it's native to Paraquay. They have been using it as a sweetener for over 1500 yeaars in South Anmerica. It's called Stevia. If anyone doubts it's safety, I would encourage them to consider that it's a MAJOR clue that Stevia is safe. Stevia has also been used in Japan since the early 1970's to sweeten their pickles. It's hundreds of times sweeter than sugar and truly has virtually no calories.
However if you have insulin issues it's recommended you avoid all sweeteners even Stevia. If you struggle with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or extra weight it's best you avoid all sweeteners.
The other thing you need to know about Stevia is it's not readily available everywhere. You probably will only find it in a health food store or an organic grocery store. But don't be too discouraged about that. Those type stores are becoming more available now. You won't need to shop for it often either because it's highly concentrated. It's not necessary to use much of it at a time to satisfy your sweet tooth. You can either buy it in a small bottle or a box of little packets. It could last you for two months or more unless you use it excessively.
It's really a shame that information such as this is not easily available to the general public. I first learned about Stevia while surfing the Internet one day. Then I was finally able to find it in a organic grocery store. What's troublling to me is the deceptive practices that goes on with many products on the market today. Big Industry seems to have a lot of pull on government agencies to lean their way and approve products not always healthy for the consumer.
It seems that this country is now full of more greedy people today than ever who are only looking for that bottom line profit instead of the concern for it's citizens. It's not the America I remember growing up in. How do you feel about that? To your health!
