One way to relieve stress is to take your mind off of the stressor. If you're constantly stressed at work, try leaving work at work. If possible, don't bring home work over the weekend. Do something else. Give your family the attention they need. Engage in sports, hobbies, play video games or any other recreational activities.

Hobbies are activities that you enjoy. There is an element in hobbies that calms and relaxes us. This not only gets our mind off of stress, but it brings out our creative side. Artistic expression is a suggested method in relieving stress. It gives us an outlet of emotions when there's no one to talk to. Songwriters, for instance, write dark and sad songs; but you see them happy. They throw their sadness and anger into their songs. Pour your feelings into a poem, a blog, or a journal, and you may feel better.

Music is therapeutic. Music therapy has existed for a long time. Listening to music may help relax you. Classical and ambient music are the most commonly used genres for relaxation. For some people, rock music relieves them of stress due to the energy it brings with its aggressive sound. If you can play an instrument, grab it and play along with your favorite songs while listening to them.

Creativity has played a part in the works of various geniuses. Leonardo da Vinci had creative works that inspired some aspects of modern technology. The law of gravity came from the creative leap that Isaac Newton made when he observed a falling apple. This tells us that creativity is more than a mere stress-reliever. Creativity can be developed in any form of recreation. Video games, for instance, started out as a hobby. Today, game developers aim for gamers to develop quick-thinking and hand/eye coordination.

Video games come in different genres. These include, but are not limited to, sports, adventure, strategy, and shooters. Sports games can help develop the competitiveness in you which you may bring along when at work. They are also fun when played with a family member. Other video game genres, especially strategy games, force you to think about your next actions. This promotes creative thinking skills, which helps you be flexible in approaching problems. Being able to handle problems may help prevent the fight-or-flight response and ultimately, stress.
