Did you get a tattoo on a whim and now wish you hadn't? If so, you can now get rid of it. It's a common procedure now at many med spas and it's not as difficult as you might think.

Tattoos can often be one of the most unique situations presented to med spa personnel. There are many factors that must be considered before the removal process begins. These include how deep the coloring is, what colors were used, your skin tone, and how old the tattoo is. Most tattoos can be removed, there are some that will not go away completely.

There are two different procedures used in med spas today to get rid of tattoos. Laser surgery is probably the most common and is definitely the least expensive. This procedure will require many treatments with a light beam that will break up the ink in the tattoo. The fragments of ink are then carried away by the body's immune system. With each treatment, the appearance of the tattoo will be reduced. However, you want to be sure your skin has a chance to heal in between treatments or you may risk some scarring.

Laser surgery has really advanced recently and most experts now say that the technology is there now to prevent this scarring. However, it will also depend on where you have the treatment done and how much area is covered on the body.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy is the newest treatment available today. It is performed in just about the same way. A gel is put on the skin and a specialized wand that uses a special pulse of light is moved over the skin. This treatment is less painful than a regular laser surgery and it also has a higher success rate. You will probably need about six treatments, maybe more, to remove a regular sized tattoo. The price for this procedure is usually more than traditional laser surgery.

Tattoo removal is a good option if you had a tattoo done in the past that is not a good fit into your lifestyle now. Some employers frown upon tattoos and some will not hire anyone that has a visible one. There are many tattoos that are done that bear someone's name. If this person is no longer in your life, you may wish to get the tattoo removed. Speak with the med spa personnel to see if tattoo removal is an option for you.
