Inspiration - Personal Development at its Best!

What are core beliefs? What does it mean to us to have them? What really guides and shapes them? These questions that are deeply personal to all of us are important to ask if we want to clearly define what truly motivates our deepest desires, actions, and what we allow into our lives. We all have these deep rooted belief systems that are so subconsciously governed that even the most aware individuals sometimes have to check in with a conscious determination to analyze and take stock of what is inventoried there. A good way one can do this is by taking a look around and noticing what is showing up in one's life. Are you happy with your relationships, career, financial situation, living situation? Are you comfortable in you own skin? By answering these questions with honesty, anyone can begin to ascertain what their core beliefs are and even change what is outdated and no is longer working for them.

So, what exactly are they, these subconscious editors and managers of our behaviors and motivations? Our core beliefs, otherwise known as our paradigm, are a composite of beliefs we have collected over the years. They are deeply held in a part of the brain that runs on autopilot. This is the same part of the brain that governs our nervous system, our breathing, heart rate, etc. There is now an ongoing debate as to when these pardigms actually begin to manifest in our psyches. But, we do know that our core beliefs are formed during our childhood as a self-protective measure. And, even though we might grow and change, it is our core beliefs that stay true to their origin affecting our behavior and motivations in adulthood. How we perceive ourselves, others and the world is greatly dependent upon the core beliefs we develop in childhood. And these beliefs, until they are mined and addressed, remain in the childhood state in which they were formed. Its like asking a child to run your life, make your decisions for you, relate to your lover or friend for you. From this childhood perspective, our every thought today, our every perception of life is filtered through this lens.

Awareness is helpful in becoming more attuned to the end result of these deeply embedded beliefs and paradigms, but it will take some serious work on any individual's part to mine and release the old outdated core beliefs that now longer serve us. It's this misalignment between our conscious desires and unconscious beliefs that cause the most discord in our lives. Through subconscious resistance, it's this misalignment that prevents us from making permanent changes in our thought patterns and behaviors, leaving us to make only temporary changes and then defaulting back to our old ways in times of stress and strife.

But, there is a light at the end of this very long, dark tunnel. Since our core belief system is entirely a learned system of thinking and believing, then the opposite is true as well. We can always unlearn what we have been taught. We all have the capacity for awareness and choosing the best for ourselves. And, this includes choosing the best in terms of right thought, belief, and action. You can choose to tear down and rebuild a belief system that is uniquely yours. Believing that we don't deserve love or the abundance that gives us the resources and oppoetunities to grow, among other things, is ludicrous if you actually think about it. Yet, we carry these beliefs around with us everyday. So, where do we bigin to change these seemingly powerful yet useless character detractors? Well, for one, we can start to become more aware of what they bring into our physical space. By becoming more knowlegeable of the connections made here, we can begin to understand ourselves better and start to have a point of reference for the beginning of true change.

Once the groundwork of awareness has been laid, we can begin to dig deeper into our own psyches. It may take alot of work here and for some years of psychotherapy, but the end result is priceless. The most terrifying thing in life for most is facing ourselves. But, to do this is the greatest journey to be taken. And, here's the rub. The only way to bring about lasting change is to do the delving and at times the drowning. But, once you go through the introspective discovery process, however you choose to do this, you soon will find that life becomes your flowing river where whatever you want flows to you because you are now consciously aligned with your heart's deepest desires.

Until Next Time,
