The art of walking meditation is not as popular as traditional methods of meditation where you sit down in a form of a cross-legged position. However, walking meditation can prove to be more accessible and easier to renew your inspiration and energy.
The Art of Meditation
When you engage in walking meditation, you'll be using some of the same principles as regular meditative practice.
Here are some tips to use when beginning with meditation:
* Schedule yourself plenty of time, at least 30 minutes to an hour. * Focus all of your attention on your breath. * Try to avoid making noise as it may distract you. * Concentrate solely on the present moment. * Go with the flow. * Follow the energy that your mind is giving you.
Introduction To Walking Meditation
Walking meditation differs from regular meditation in a few core ways. The most obvious is the fact that you're walking instead of staying still. This is beneficial for those who think more clearly when they're moving around.
Also, when you practice walking meditation, you can eventually engage in meditation as you complete day-to-day tasks. This is useful because you won't always have enough time for a standard meditation session.
Use these strategies to enhance your experience as you begin walking meditation:
1. Start by standing. Don't begin walking right away. Stay calm and give yourself time to get into a steady pattern of breathing. Once you've achieved this balance, you can begin walking. This stage can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes; just do what feels right for you at the time.
2. Choose your location. Have an idea in mind about where you're going to walk before you start the practice. If you don't have a plan in mind beforehand, you may be too distracted thinking about where you're headed.
* It's up to you where you want to walk, but choose a place that tends to be calm instead of busy. You can walk in a park and take in nature, or you can even wal! k in cir cles in a large empty room.
3. Watch your pace. Your pace will probably vary from session to session, and that's okay. Try starting out faster than intended, then slow down to a pace that makes you feel balanced and almost like your body is doing the work automatically.
4. End your session. Most sessions last about 30 minutes to an hour. This should be enough time for you to enjoy the meditative practice as well as get some exercise in the process. To end your session, slow down and stand up straight for a few minutes. Focus on your breathing just as you did at the beginning of your session.
Bringing Meditation Into Everyday Tasks
It's a good idea to master the art of walking meditation before trying to bring your regular meditative practice into your everyday living. Doing so will give you a better idea about what it's like to meditate while your body is in motion.
While you won't be able to meditate while you're talking or engaging in activities that you're not familiar with, you can start to make it a part of your daily routine, whether it be in the mornings during your commute or during your lunch break.
Watch Your Emotions
Walking meditation and regular meditation have the power to get you in touch with your true emotions. Some people are unsure about what they're feeling and may end up repressing feelings or acting out in anger. Your emotions will generally rise up during a walking meditation session, which is why it's a good idea for you to engage in these meditation sessions often.
With continued practice, you'll find a powerful tool in your life that can calm, refresh, inspire, and motivate you wherever you go! |

Bad habits can form without you even knowing it and they can prove to be difficult to break. However, it's always the first step that's the most difficult. Once you get started, you'll build both momentum and confidence. With a proper focus and willingness to succeed, you'll find that you can overcome any bad habit. Then you can choose to replace that bad habit with a more positive one. Breaking Bad Patterns of Behavior Before you can tackle the problem of replacing a bad habit with a good one, you'll need to be mentally prepared to detach yourself from the habit. A strong mindset allows you to tackle nearly anything! Keep these tips in mind as you prepare to transform your habits: • Get organized by figuring out the bad pattern you'd like to break. • Start small, with one habit at a time. Trying to change too much at once can overwhelm you. • Decide that you truly want to change. If you don't want to change, you simply won't. • Don't judge yourself. If you make a mistake, get back in there and keep trying. The Substitution The key to permanently breaking a bad habit lies in being able to replace it with a good one. If you engage in a bad habit and decide to simply stop entirely, it can be incredibly tough. You might be okay for a while, but chances are you'll find yourself back to your old bad habits in no time. Consider some of these situations for substituting good habits for bad ones: 1. Exercise. Exercise is an excellent substitution for bad habits. Exercise can make you less likely to overeat and help you battle other addictions as well. With exercise, instead of just trying to refrain from the addicting activities, you're actively releasing your energy in other ways. 2. "Being social" and other excuses. Sometimes we say that our bad habits happen in social situations only. It's true that we're social creatures, but certainly you can be social in ways that aren't detrimental to your health! Change your routines to avoid the temptation. 3. Taking action. Your solutions don't have to be conventional or from a textbook, but they do have to work for you as an individual. Strive to take action and stay the course, even if you stumble from time to time. Fulfill Your Needs You must learn to fulfill your needs in a healthy way. Chances are you've developed a bad habit because of an underlying need. Identify this need and find positive ways to fulfill it. You might need to do a little soul searching in order to find the true underlying causes for your bad habits. If you have a bad habit of grinding your teeth at night, you might need to ask yourself why. Taking an action like wearing a mouth guard is one thing, but maybe you also need to take action to get to the root of your stress! You might engage in many negative actions because you don't feel needed and loved the way you think you deserve to be. This is the root of the problem that we often ignore. Masking the pain with self-destructive habits is clearly not going to solve the issue. Instead, discuss your concerns with family, friends or a health professional and be proactive in solving it. Following these tips to help you turn bad habits into good ones may take some time and effort, but the benefits of a happier and healthier life are well worth it! |

If you've recently suffered burnout, you'll likely be looking for ways to restore your peace, health, and happiness. It's important to treat yourself lovingly after such a trauma to your system so you don't develop chronic health conditions.Burnout can cause all sorts of mental and emotional issues, including anxiety and depression. You should try to recognize the signs that lead to burnout, but this may not always be possible. If you concentrate on restoring yourself after burnout, you can avoid these issues and get your true self back. Consider these burnout tips to help you regain your strength: 1. Find a new direction. The best, most permanent, way of dealing with burnout is to focus on making sustainable life changes. Ask yourself whether or not you're happy in your current situation. Perhaps it's time to make a major life shift, such as a new career or downsizing your home. 2. Take a break. It's best to get away from the situation that has caused you to burn out. This may mean going out for a walk and getting away for a few hours, or it may mean giving yourself a full blown vacation. • You don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money for a vacation. Your goal is to relax and clear your mind. You can certainly do this at home or in your local community. 3. Solve the problem. If you're currently in the middle of a stressful situation, take action to solve the problem right away as best as you can. Consider the possible solutions to the problem and ask for help from others if necessary. 4. Gain control. Take control of the situation where possible. Realize that you can solve your problems and you're not doomed to remain in this state forever. Also, have the wisdom to accept that there are situations that are beyond your control. • Do what you can to improve your situation, but avoid worrying about the things out of your control. 5. Be open and honest. Sometimes it's best to set your pride aside and ask for help when you need it. Open up about the issues you're facing with a close friend or relative. If that's not an option for you, seek the help of a counselor. Stress Management If burnout tends to be a common occurrence for you, it would be in your best interest to start studying some stress management techniques. There are certain things you can do to combat stress: • Don't take on too much at work or at home. • Remember that you can - and should - tell people "no." • Make time for yourself. • Ask for help from others. Know Your Warning Signs Once you've suffered burnout, you'll certainly want to know how you can avoid a similar situation in the future. Study the factors that led to burnout, and identify your mistakes so you can avoid making them again in the future. In the End These strategies will help you regain peace with yourself. If there are any outstanding issues that you need to resolve, seek solutions so you can achieve peace. You can do so through self-reflection, prayer, meditation, and communication. And once you do, you'll avoid burnout altogether! |

Many people say that they simply don't have the time to exercise. While this may be perfectly true in a fast paced world, there are certain things you can do to incorporate exercise into your daily life without allotting much time for it. When it comes to exercise, it all starts with a good attitude and a little bit of action each day. It's a common misconception to believe that you need to engage in strict dieting or lengthy and vigorous exercise routines in order to stay in shape. It simply isn't true! Try some of these tips in order to slip exercise into your daily routine: 1. Take the Stairs. No matter where you are, there are many times when you can opt to take the stairs instead of an elevator. Whether you're attending an important business meeting, or just going to the mall, take the stairs. 2. Go for a Walk. Walking is a great way to get extra exercise and most of the time it doesn't feel like exercise at all. If you were planning to meet with a friend, ask them if they'd like to go for a walk while you talk. Alternatively, you can go for walk when you just need to sort some of your thoughts. Besides, getting some extra blood to the brain will actually help you think clearer. 3. Play with Your Children. If you have children, it's likely that you have at least a part of your day dedicated to their care. Decide that you're going to engage in active games like outdoor sports. You can even do this with pets too. It'll be a fun and relaxing source of exercise! 4. Jog in Place. Jogging in place might seem like a boring activity, but when you combine it with something else that you're doing, it can be quite invigorating. There are bound to be short bursts of time that you can use to relieve tension and get the blood pumping. 5. Ride Your Bike. If you're traveling a short distance, it's a good idea to take your bike, instead of the car or bus. While it may add some time to your overall travel time, it's a great way to stay in shape if you can spare a few extra minutes. 6. Active Dates. Whether you'd like to schedule a date with a partner, friend, or family member, you can definitely choose an activity with exercise. Instead of going to a movie, go dancing. You could even try something like rock climbing or attending the batting cages. Get creative and have a blast! 7. Lift Weights. You can multitask while lifting weights as well. Lift while you're brainstorming, watching TV, or talking on the phone. You may also want to keep the weights at your desk as a reminder to use them. 8. Park Far Away. You don't need the stress of fighting for the closest parking spot. Instead, travel a little further and walk! There's little stress involved with this decision and it'll probably save you some time, too. 9. Try Outdoor Chores. If you don't already participate in outdoor chores, you could be helping your house and yourself by engaging in them. You might even be saving your family some money if you've previously hired the neighbor's kids. Mow your lawn, do some weeding, or take up gardening - it's a simple way to stay fit! Keep Moving It doesn't take long to realize that, with the proper attitude, you can still remain active while you're busy with other things. Sometimes you may end up taking a little extra time to do routine tasks, but your body will thank you for it. Just take these simple, small actions each day and you'll soon reap the rewards! |

Addictions of all kinds can be incredibly difficult to overcome. When a loved one is suffering from an addiction, it can greatly affect you as well. Naturally, you don't like to watch them suffer and you're searching for ways to help. The truth is that loved ones are usually best equipped to help because they're loving and trustworthy. Here is a list of tips to keep in mind when helping someone with addictions: 1. Help Them Make Wise Choices. Sometimes it's not so easy to make a wise choice for yourself. A pair of eyes on the outside may be just what your loved one needs. Suggest alternatives to their addictive behaviors. Make sure not to belittle or judge them but, instead, listen to what they have to say. 2. Offer Love and Support. Your loved one needs to know that they'll have love and support even in vulnerable times. Make sure you're there for them no matter what. It can be the difference between getting over the addiction, and suffering from it forever. 3. Help Them Through Cravings. Your loved one will endure many cravings, especially when they first withdraw from their addictive behavior. You have to be there in order to keep them from the addictive behavior at all costs. Make suggestions for alternative things that they can engage in, instead of the addiction. 4. Get Medical Help. You need to be wise enough to realize that sometimes a medical professional is required to intervene. If these situations arise, have the necessary phone numbers handy in order to get help as quickly as possible. 5. Form an Intervention. Interventions are great ways of showing your loved one that many people care about him or her and their health. They work because the sufferer realizes that their actions are affecting and being noticed by many people around them. They're then able to stop the denial about the whole situation. 6. Attend a Meeting. It's likely that there are local meetings about the particular addiction that your loved one is suffering from. These meetings are not just for the sufferer, but also for anyone affected by the addiction. You can attend these meeting as well in order to offer support and gain a better understanding about this affliction. 7. Understand Withdrawal. It will help you to further educate yourself on what happens when a person hits withdrawal. If they're suffering from a drug addiction, there may be many unsettling physical symptoms that occur as well as psychological ones. You can expect headaches and vomiting just to name a few. 8. Avoid Boredom and Stress. After withdrawal symptoms have settled down, relapses can occur if the sufferer is bored or stressed. While you may not be able to always physically be there for your loved one, you can equip them with ideas on how to combat boredom or severe stress. Give them a list of specific things they can turn to if they feel their addictions calling. Remember that it's also important to make time for you. Most people don't realize the large impact that addictions have on the loved ones of the person suffering. It's difficult to watch on the sidelines. Just keep in mind that, with your love and support, they'll be far more likely to overcome addiction and return to normal. |

How often have we discovered ourselves getting into small arguments? Things were fine one moment and everything just went haywire the next. And you just haven't a clue! Well, the old Chinese art of feng shui may simply have the answer. According to this thousand year old science, our lives are in-sync with our environment. This may simply sound fine but then it takes one step ahead in giving solutions and answers. Back to our initial query. Knowingly or unknowingly, we do feng shui our home. Aside from beautifying our homes, the decorations that we do such as placing pots of live plants and lights have their influence, feng shui wise. Why is this so? Again, according to feng shui theory, every thing is energy and these forces are essentially organized into eight kinds. This is relatively understandable whenever we feel heat and cold. It goes a step further in theorizing that these eight force patterns interact with each other and pertinently impact our lives! What has all these got to do with the condition of our relationship? It does. For example, too many lights in our bedroom could be one. The glare and heat from the lights would fall as heat or more specifically the characteristic of fire. You may think that this would 'fire' up our enthusiasm but it could also stir up our range too. The feng shui specialist, obviously, may take this into importance but what he would be looking for would really be the influence of these lights on the latent force that was present when the house was occupied. Ignoring the difficulties, we do really need to be wary with how we place our design our lighting, place the aquarium and not forgetting the furniture. Everything is a matter of arrangement. These all seem kind of imposing, don't they? The rule is that too much of anything to the time of being a nuisance is not suggested.

Alternative medicine is a broad phrase that describes a number of kinds of treatment, cures and relief that are derived from sources other than conventional medicine. The therapies, medical approaches and philosophies that are encompassed in the phrase alternative medicine are too numerous to be adequately discussed here. There are some kinds of alternative medicine which are more widely used and well known than others. These more common forms of alternative medicine have been received by lots of people and is broadly practiced. Acupuncture This type of alternative medicine is a sort of therapy which is practiced with the use of particular type of needles. These specially made needles are slender and lengthy which make it easier to introduce them into the human body. The filiform needles are inserted into certain points in the human body which are selected for pain relief or therapy. This type of alternative medicine therapy originated in China. The Chinese developed a system of meridians from which energy is said to flow. Tapping into these meridians with the use of the acupuncture needles will assist to relieve various conditions and ailments that a person may be experiencing as well as help to relax and even lower weight. There are so many different studies about acupuncture since this is one of the more accepted types of alternative medicine but the results are mostly open to doubt. There are a few health organizations that do acknowledge the helpful effects of acupuncture but established medicine does not. A lot of traditional medical practitioners say that while acupuncture may not be effective there is nothing to lose if the patient would really love to try it. The employment of sterile needles in addition to the use of the said practice by conscientious and well qualified specialist is a must for this form of alternative medicine. Whether it has a placebo effect or real effect on individuals may depend wholly on how receptive the individual may be to it. Chiropractic This form of alternative medicine involves the treatment of disorders and other conditions through the applying of pressure on the musculoskeletal system. In basic terms, the body, through realignment of the bones and pressure on the muscles is supposed to recover its balance and be relieved or cured from some conditions and disorders. This alternative medicine form of therapy uses the manipulation of the individuals joints, spine and other soft tissues to encompass the all-purpose application of manual therapy. The manipulation and manual therapy is essentially done by the chiropractor but he can also assign a succession of drills and related therapies which the patient can perform in his or her own home. This alternative medicine therapy was founded in the late 1800s. The practice enjoys much recognition in large areas of the USA as well as some regions of Asia. Chiropractic medicine is found to be of value in treating back pain and other maladies related to the joints and bones. This form of alternative medicine therapy is recognized by many established medicine doctors as treatment for back pain but in general it is still deemed as therapy and not actually medicine or cure. There is some disagreement regarding the safety of the practice since there are some phony chiropractors who have "accidents" Naturopathy Naturopathy is a type of relief or treatment which includes several forms of alternative medicine therapies and treatments. The notion of naturopathy is that the body can mend itself without the need of established medicine through the assorted kinds of natural medicine. The use of established Chinese medicine, acupuncture, reflexology, botanical medicine, homeopathy, nutrition and even the practice of good hygiene are said to be included in naturopathy. lots of people believe in this ideal and try to heal or treat themselves through the employment of natural types of alternative medicine.
