When I told my friends my website was going to replace my full time income, they were not so impressed. There were a few raised eyebrows, some knowing looks and, yes, there was even a bit of laughter. It took me seven years. As it Turned Out, it Wasn't Easy Along the way, I bought book after book and system after system always to be left feeling a little disappointed. In addition to my responsible day job, I worked every day on my web business. I did two hours before going to work and then another two hours in the evening and, in addition, I worked every Saturday. Through this period, I served my apprenticeship and at times it was really tough going, working my way through the mountain of misinformation that abounds on the web. I sometimes doubted that I would ever be able to achieve my goal. But gradually, I learned for myself what worked and what didn't, all by trial and error. By doing more of what worked and less of what didn't, I got more and more successful at the business of making money and, three months ago (at the time of writing) I finally quit the day job. It was no risk whatsoever, because most of my income is passive, in other words, it now comes in whether I decide to work or not.
Well, if you are tempted by flashy graphics and videos with dramatic voiceovers telling you that all you need to do is click a button and watch cash roll into your bank account, then let me save you a lot of time and money: when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. This is what I like to call Infomarketing. It is often said that in excess of 95% of people who start out intending to make their living online fail; some stats even put the figure as high as 97%. Does that make me a world class Infomarketer? Well, it depends what you mean by the expression, of course, but it definitely puts me in the top 3-5%. The income stats are not here to try to impress you or to brag in any way. I just want you to be absolutely sure that I know what I am talking about. That's important because you want to know what works and so you need to learn from someone who has the experience.

Not Easy What happened was that I gradually realised that making money online was in fact simple; not easy, but simple. In order to make money, you have to provide value in some way. Quite simply money changes hands when value is delivered. So, as I always wanted to write, I decided to write my first book to be published online confidently believing that it would sell, after all, it was going to be a great book. I completed the book, knocked up a sales page, made some graphics, put it up on the web and ... well ... nothing much happened. Yes, I did manage to sell some copies, but at the time, my book did not become the stunning success I had imagined. What I then did was a masterstroke (if I do say so myself). I decided that I would not write another book until I could figure out why that first book was not selling. So began my lengthy detour into internet marketing. That's how I learned everything I needed to know about copywriting - a completely different skill to writing books - squeeze pages, autoresponders and all of the other bits and pieces that make up a successful launch platform for a web-based product. Today, I sell copies of my
