eWriterPro Help

Installation Problems

eWriterPro was designed for Windows Operating Systems (sorry Mac users!); and works well with both Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Installation is very straightforward  - just start the Setup program and follow the instructions.

When You download the Software, you need to take the following steps ...

  • Unzip - Right-Click, Extract-All
  • Login as Administrator (Very important)
  • Run the Setup Program
  • Follow the On-Screen Instructions

It is very easy to install. Most installation problems can be traced back to not having Administrator privileges when trying to install.

If you have any difficulty at all, simply uninstall (again using the Setup program) and then reinstall.

Once installed, you should see the New eWriterPro icon added to the Desktop and the QuickStart Menu at the bottom of the screen.

eWriterPro makes use of the Microsoft .Net Framework. Some users have found it necessary to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft .Net Framework.

Notes for Vista Users

Vista users may need to take a few extra steps. After following the installation steps above, if you are experiencing problems, do the following ...

  • Point the mouse at the Short-Cut Icon on the Desktop & Right Click
  • Click the Properties Option (at the bottom)
  • Click the Compatibility Tab
  • Select 'Run this Program in Compatibility Mode'
  • Click the Drop down & Select XP

Notes for Windows 7 Users

To run XP Applications, including eWriterPro, on Windows 7, you need to enable the XP Mode feature. Here is a video from Microsoft that explains XP Mode ...

Microsoft Virtual PC

Here is another video that explains how to install XP Mode ...

Microsoft Virtual PC

XP Mode is available for Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional and Enterprise.

Sadly Microsoft has not released XP Mode for Windows 7 Home Edition. If you are experiencing problems with eWriterPro and you are using Windows 7, this is probably the reason.

We have recently come across the following workaround for this problem ...

Running on Windows 7 Home Edition

The above workaround is not something we have tested, but it looks like it should work. If you try it, we would appreciate your comments.

Also, perhaps you might contact Microsoft and ask them why they have not made this feature available for Home Edition. Perhaps if enough people dis that, they might still release it.
