Happiness and fulfilment is a state of mind, not a new car or a pot of gold or a passionate relationship. All of these things will end sooner or later and if you place your happiness in material objects you are signing a contract for sorrow, pain and disappointment. Your mind will become restless due to the multitude of desires. “Stuff” will never make you happy. The only place where you can find happiness is in your heart.
Think of your life as a journey. Sure you will hit some bumps on the road, sure the sun won’t shine 24-7, but think of how many new things you will learn, how many wonderful places will you visit, how many people you’ll help. Happiness is not found at the end of the journey, but in the journey itself.
The Most Powerful Technique That Will Help You
To Change Your Emotions
Of course those principles I discussed above are the basics. We’ve all heard of them before. Blah-blah-blah – “don’t worry be happy” crap. It’s easier said than done. It’s true you can probably count just a few people who can say “I achieved complete happiness. I do not depend on earthy objects or earthy emotions.” One of these people was Jesus, the other one was Buddha. The rest of us will feel down and unhappy at some point of our lives.
This is the technique I use when I fill angry or depressed. It is powerful, and it is used by thousands of professional psychologists and psychiatrists all over the world.
Before I tell you what it is, I want you to understand how the connection between our mind and body works.
Emotion is a mental form of the mind. That emotion produces Feelings. Feelings momentarily turn into physical sensations. For example: You’re watching a horror movie, you get frightened (well at least I do), as a physical sensation you will get goose bumps or you can jump up in your seat. Our mind is a very powerful tool. Another example: Imagine eating a sour, juicy lemon; imagine biting into it and chewing carefully. Your mouth will start filling with saliva right away. The connection is simple. Your mind creates the emotion, and then your body reacts.
A lot of us don’t use nearly as much imagination as we should. Our mode of survival is our logic and rationalism. As a result we use our “left brain” a lot more often than our right one. This creates an unbalance in our body, which stops us from being happy. How do we fix this unbalance? Use visualization!
Visualization uses imagery to change your emotions. Like a domino reaction, emotion changes your feelings, feelings change your physical sensations.
How do you actually visualize your happiness?
Find a quiet place, close your eyes and relax. Take a couple of deep, slow breaths. Visualize yourself in a situation that makes you happy. You can walk down the beach at the edge of the ocean. Feel the soft breeze and the warmth of the sun on your skin. Smell the salty air around you. Imagine the sensation of warm sand touching your bare feet. Picture yourself holding hands with the person you love, friends waving to you from the other side of the beach. Concentrate on that feeling of fulfilment and happiness. You can visualize anything that makes you happy, anything that you want to accomplish.
