Perhaps you have heard of the Public Domain, but just in case you have not, let me tell you that it is a huge repository of creative works including books, films, audios, pictures, graphics, music and just about anything else you can imagine that can be created - and they are all freely available for distribution by anyone.
Now when I use the word 'distribution', that means you can absolutely do whatever you want with such information - entirely legally. That means you can package it, transform it into other works that can legally bear your own copyright or you can sell it or give it away. It turns out that there are many people on the internet who are making quite a killing out of recycling Public Domain material.
Of course, you need to be careful to ensure that any information you distribute is truly in the Public Domain - otherwise you could end up with legal issues, but this body of work is a real treasure that can be used very effectively by webmasters. One other word of warning: just because a 'text' is public domain, don;t assume the format you have it in is also public domain. Always check and double-check before using this material.
