Learning to explicitly state and then challenge our assumptions is a powerful Analysis technique. It is a principle I teach in my Problem Solving Workshop and it is so eloquently expounded by Andy Cohen.
I used to do a bit of magic myself and I have always admired the simplicity of the French-Drop - Andy demonstrates it here beautifully. I have never thought of using it as a way of explaining the principle before.
You have no-doubt heard of the idea of Thinking Outside the Box. Well how exactly is that kind of thinking achieved? The first step if to identify where the box is - and that is done by stating your assumptions.
Who knows, perhaps I'll dig out my old clown wig in preparation for my next Workshop!
