XP Service Pack 2
Windows XP Service
Pack 2 causes problems with some e-Books. I recently downloaded a number
of books for which I had paid for resale rights and was somewhat
disappointed to find that several of them did not run properly. Well I was a bit
miffed at first but then I came across a little piece of software by
Pawan Agrawal called Fix My eBooks (fixmyebooks.exe) which does just
that.
It seems that books created
with some e-Book compilers (including Active e-Book Compiler) seem to be
unaffected by the Microsoft upgrade, but there are a number of eBooks
that will not run with XP SP2. The problem appears to be with books
created for older 16 Bit Operating Systems like Windows 9x.
If you are experiencing this
problem with your e-Books since the upgrade to Windows XP SP2, then you
can obtain a copy of Pawan's excellent script from our download page -

When you run the script, it
may produce a warning message - my own machine does this. Pawan tells me
that it is because the script temporarily enables a feature that XP SP2
normally disables. On my own machine it is McAffee that produces the
warning. I then must choose to allow the script to run. It puts a little
window on my desktop & then I can run all of the books that would not
previously run under XP SP2.
